How to Fulfill Our Dreams When Building China into a Modern Socialist Country
Under the spotlight from all over the world, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China which has highlighted the importance of rallying the youth has achieved great success recently. Faced with new opportunities and changes, young people are bound to play a significant role in a thoroughly new journey to build China into a modern socialist country in all respects. Whereas, in order to smash the stereotype about the generation born in the 2000s, or a laid-back generation, we can take actions to display our vitality and perseverance and show that “A nation will prosper only when its young people thrive.”
There is no denying that youth shares weal and woes with our country and people. And we should bear in mind that, needless to say, the hopes of a country and the future of a nation lie in the hands of its young generation. Therefore, when fulfilling our dreams, we are obliged to closely tie our own dreams with the country’s development. Just as the saying goes, “Actions speak louder than words.” Everyone knows that they should connect their dreams with their county’s advancement, yet it’s extraordinarily difficult to put it into practice. It requires us to find effective ways to combine them.
First and foremost, one of the most effective approaches is to foster the innovation ability of youth. As Einstein said, “If you walk in the footprints of others, you won’t make any of your own.” Thus, it’s virtually impossible to realize one’s dream by staying in the same old groove. Particularly, with the continuous innovation in modern society, innovative ideas keep emerging, from economy to medical treatment, from digital media teaching to technical innovation, such as health information systems, cloud computing, Metaverse, and so forth. Without innovation, we can’t keep pace with the rapid development of our country, nor promote comprehensive national strength if we’re reluctant to move forward to create our footprints.
What’s more, youth needs to uphold fundamental principles and break new ground, which means that we have to blaze new trails by upholding integrity and adhering to fundamental responsibilities. Only with these momentous principles, can we truly fulfill our dreams, never running counter to our original aspiration and accomplishing our lofty mission. If not, we will definitely be criticized by the public and even severely punished by the law. For example, China's e-commerce live streamer Huang Wei, known as Viya, has been ordered to pay taxes and fines for tax evasion of 1.341 billion yuan. Despite her insightful ideas about e-commerce innovation, her dream broke like a bubble as she violated the norms and regulations.
Equally important, young people need to attach great importance to the spirit of dedication. The reason, in part, is that we’re confronted with the conflict between individual interests and collective interests, and ego and generosity. Not only does the spirit, to some extent, display the collectivism of Chinese people, but it also demonstrates our consensus of building a community of shared future of mankind and our willingness to value the welfare of humanity rather than one’s self-interests. There are innumerable examples in this regard. Tu Youyou dedicated over 40 years to finding an effective treatment for malaria and extracted artemisinin eventually; Yuan Longping, “Father of hybrid rice,” threw himself into lifelong research to help feed the world population; selfless medical workers ignored the risk of being affected and worked on the front line without hesitation, playing an indispensable part in winning the battle against the virus in the COVID-19 epidemic.
In a nutshell, living in a remarkable time to build China into a modern socialist country in all respects, we have an unprecedentedly broad stage on which to display our full talents. As long as we cultivate our innovation ability and dedication spirit, we’re certainly able to live up to the expectations of our times, when promoting the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
