A Hundred Years of Journey, We Are on the Road
When the world set its eyes on the east, when visitors wandered through the former Imperial Palace, when people joyfully praised a prosperous China, our dream has come true. Standing on this vast land, I am inundated with all sorts of feelings.
In 2049, China will have achieved the second centenary goal of building a modern socialist country in all respects. In a modern country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious and beautiful, people’s living standards will be greatly improved, and their growing needs for a better life will also be met.
In recent years, due to scientific and technological development, our life has become very convenient. As technology has made our lives easier, we now have more time at our disposal. At the same time, technology has never stopped advancing. In 2049, unmanned technology will be very mature, and driverless cars can be found everywhere. Moreover, we no longer need to worry about air pollution caused by cars because they will be fuelled by clean energy. We will acquire more knowledge about the physiological structure of the human body through major medical breakthroughs, so as to better prevent and treat complicated diseases that perplexed humanity decades ago, such as cancer and leukemia.
Adhering to the concept of putting people first and achieving common prosperity for all, China will have built a more comprehensive social security and legal system in 2049 to realize social fairness and justice. The implementation of the three-child policy and the double reduction policy (a policy to ease homework and after-school tutoring burdens) has brought us more skilled labor forces and alleviated the aging problem. At the same time, China’s economic development will no longer be affected by the pandemic. Under the support of traditional industries, China’s digital infrastructure construction will be further improved in 2049. With a narrower digital gap, China’s digital economy will develop in an all-round way, contributing to a more flexible economic structure.
General Secretary Xi Jinping once said that lucid waters and lush mountains were invaluable assets. We will stay true to the principle of promoting green development and ensuring harmony between humanity and nature. The conservation of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, and grasslands will be strengthened in 2049. We will also develop a national park-based system of protected areas. Furthermore, the quality of the environment will be dramatically improved due to advanced technologies and proper policies. We will have generally eliminated heavy air pollution and black and odorous water bodies in cities. I am firmly convinced that China’s green development will not stop there. We will continue to expedite the transition of China’s growth model to one of green development, and promote both high-quality economic growth and high-standard environmental protection.
As is known to all, China is one of the five permanent members of the United Nations. As a responsible major country, China has always upheld the principle of openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation. Adhering to the concept of true multilateralism, China promotes building a community with a shared future for mankind. For many countries around the world, China has become their most important bilateral trade partner. Therefore, a new pattern of development with domestic circulation as the mainstay and domestic and international circulations reinforcing each other has been developed. The reduction of trade barriers and tariffs has further improved people’s living standards and given the economy a steady recovery. The Belt and Road Initiative has also seen steady development and cooperation among countries along the route.
Looking back on the past one hundred years, I can not help but close my eyes and lapse into thinking.
It was one hundred years of glorious endeavors, magnificent upsurge, and tremendous vicissitudes. All of those are contributed to the arduous efforts of Chinese citizens and the selfless dedication of China’s outstanding youths.
We are living in an era both fraught with challenges and full of hopes. In this new era, the Chinese nation has achieved the great leap from standing up and getting rich to becoming strong and has realized the historical progress of national rejuvenation. I believe that China will embrace a better future.
At this new historical turning point, let us look forward to the next hundred years. I am on the road, and we are on the road. We should never forget our original aspiration and founding mission. Let’s forge ahead with enterprise and fortitude. Let’s follow the Chinese path and say hello to 2049.
